Akemashite omedetto gozaimasu: Happy New Year in Japanese *bowing*

Hello, dear friends. Do you like learning new words? I have one — it’s Japanese.

Wakamizu is the first water drawn from a well on New Year’s Day. And I present the aesthetic concept to you in a tanka, a form that fascinates me.

Its calming simplicity, crafted in everyday words and presented in five lines, has been my trend in the last months of last year. Now that the curtains are up in 2023, I find it appropriate to write about the bright reflection of a star that bounced into my water on New Year’s Day.
